Throughout my experiences in the AET Program, I have learned how to teach adult students. I know that not all students learn in the same manner, and that it takes careful consideration of who each student is. Part of this is related to each student's unique background. This may include a student's culture and also their experiences. With all students as individuals, this also places an emphasis on understanding diversity, a topic that I am experienced with. Every student enrolls in a course ready to learn and with their own unique goals. It is my responsibility to use teaching methods that work, and to place an emphasis on working with students individually. Working with students may require making changes and adapting to a changing classroom. Knowing the teaching methods that assure student success are essential to learning. Part of this is related to knowing the level of learning in which a student finds him or herself. I feel that it is a goal to work towards, to help every student to realize their potential, and for the students to become more self-directed in their learning.
