My name is Samuel Levinson and I am a graduate in the AET program at Colorado State University. I graduated from Colorado State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts, and I graduated with a Master of Education in 2014. I have eleven years of experience with online distance learning. I enjoy writing and communications. My background in communications is extensive, with over fifty-one credit hours in communications studies. Through various formats such as workshops and seminars, I have the technical ability to provide content through virtual and online communication. I have experience with programs such as PowerPoint, Pinnacle Studio, Windows Movie Maker, and I have also participated in professional meetings through Go To Meeting, Web Ex, and Second Life. I have experience in designing websites and creating videos that may be used for educational purposes. In addition to this, I am experienced in creating a video for a webcast, and broadcasting online using UStream.
The purpose of this portfolio is to provide information about myself as an adult educator. It is my goal to teach adult learners at an institution such as a community college. I view teaching as an important profession that contributes to the lives of students and helps them to meet their goals. These goals may be professional or personal, as a diverse audience of students will have different motivations for themselves. I believe it is part of the job of the instructor to present and to explain the subject matter by using methods that assure student comprehension. All students should be advancing in their educational progress. An instructor should have a major role in enhancing the learning environment, and in helping students to reach their potential so that they will have a better future. I believe that a classroom should have a learner-centered approach. The learning environment should be nurturing to the students and also allow for progress to be made. Material should be presented clearly and a teacher should be able to answer questions. Students should build upon their knowledge and become more self-directed. An instructor should learn of the level that a student is in, and to work to teach at this learning level, as opposed to teaching below or beyond the current level of understanding. I believe this is important in order to help the student to have self confidence. In addition to this, I feel that an instructor should have an understanding of all students, and to interact with students on an individual basis.
